Is The Problem With My Dryer or My Dryer Vent?
Depending on the dryer make, it is sometimes possible to discern whether long drying times can be attributed solely to the vent. If you removed the dryer vent line from the actual unit before performing a load and you find that drying time improves, you can be sure that the dryer vent is clogged and is a culprit. A simple dryer vent cleaning by Mr. Duct Dryer Vent Cleaners can easily solve this problem.
How Does My Dryer Vent Contribute to Drying Times?
There are many factors that contribute to the proper operation of a clothes dryer, but the venting is one of the most critical details. The dryer vent eliminates moisture that is the result of heating of damp clothing. This moisture, which is held in the warm dryer air and known as humidity, is normally fed through the vent and out of the home. If there is improper airflow, which is the result of a lint blockage, this moisture will not be able to escape. This results in longer clothes drying time. The moisture can also collect into pools of water in the bends of your dryer vent, eventually leaking out. Any moisture that accumulates inside the vent is a sign of poor venting design that should be addressed immediately. Be sure to schedule Mr. Duct Dryer Vent Cleaning for a dryer vent inspection and service.
How your dryer vent removes heat may vary, but all units should be able to do this properly. A few current models have non-resettable thermal fuse/safety, which will open if the dryer’s vent is improperly mounted or clogged with dirt. Due to the hazardous nature of dryer fires, your dryer will no longer heat once this happens. This is meant as a safety measure so that you can have the dryer vent checked or the thermal safety replaced. Some dryers will stop operating all together.
However, many older dryer models do not have this safety feature. Most older models have two dryer heating settings: a safety thermostat and a temperature thermostat. Though your dryer usually cycles on the temperature thermostat, a clogged vent or broken switch can switch the drying setting to the safety thermostat. When using this setting, clothes take longer to dry and the prolonged drying periods can overheat your dryer unit. Calling Mr. Duct Dryer Vent Cleaning annually will ensure that both moisture and heat escape from the dryer vent properly, saving you all this worry!
PROPER DRYER VENT DESIGN
Acceptable Dryer Vent Lengths
There is no magic number for dryer vent lengths in which problems can arise. Because of this, you should schedule a dryer vent inspection and cleaning on an annual basis. When trying to determine proper dryer length, take into the account both the brand and model of your dryer. Is it a newer or older unit? What is the suggested drying time listed in the owner’s manual? You may also want to take into account the vent material and type of exterior vent covering used. If your dryer vent is made of materials other than metal, which may also affect your dryer’s length and clothes drying time.
Accepted Dryer Vent Materials
All vents should be made of rigid metal vent material with a large opening toward the mouth or a louvered outdoor hood. (A louvered outdoor hood will allow for air to pass through and from the opening, but will be designed to keep out rain, snow, and other debris. Flexible metal ducting is another material to avoid in terms of dryer vent construction. The folded design of flexible ductwork, also known as a corrugated dryer vent, reduces air flow. The bends of flexible dryer vent cleaning will quickly accumulate lint and other debris.
No Nylon for Dryer Vent Ducts
Flexible Nylon dryer venting is not an accepted vent-work material. Nylon is highly flammable and has never been approved for use on gas dryers.
Must Vent to the Outside
According to U.S. Law, all gas dryers must b vented to the outside of the home. A dryer vent inspection performed by Mr. Duct Dryer Vent Cleaning will help to ensure that your venting adheres to building, city, state, and national codes.

Complete Removal of Dryer Lint in System
All lint should be removed from the system after your dryer vent cleaner has performed the service. If there is any lint within the dryer vent, there may be an underlying problem with your vent’s air flow. Make sure to have the specific location of the accumulation evaluated by your dryer vent cleaner to ensure a proper dryer cleaning.
The vent should be as short and straight with possible. Any pleated or curved venting reduces airflows and decreases your dryer' ability to eliminate heat from its system. Elbows are also host spaces for lint to accumulate. If there are several bends in the ductwork, you should expect your dryer cleaning to take anywhere from 30 minutes to an hour, depending on its complexity. Mr. Duct's dryer vent cleaners are trained to recognize design issues immediately and will be sure to make recommendations if necessary during the dryer cleaning process.
No Metal Screws, No Dryer Vent Obstructions
Mr. Duct Dryer Cleaners utilize what is called metal foil tape to attach multiple sections of vent pipe together. Sheet metal screws create obstructions in air flow and act as a host area for lint accumulation. These screws make your dryer cleaning much for difficult for the dryer vent cleaner servicing your home the following year. Metal Foil Tape effective seals your dryer vent pipe without causing any obstructions to dryer vent airflow or clothes drying times.
